‘Conversations with Remarkable Women’ is Thursday

Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper and a slate of prominent women and national figures will headline the Alturas Institute’s “Conversations with Remarkable Women” on Thursday in the Bennion Room at University Place in Idaho Falls.

The theme of the dinner program is “Finding Your Voice,” an Alturas Institute news release said.

“The theme is one that resonates across America as women share their experiences in overcoming challenges and hurdles in their quest for self-expression, participation in leadership positions and engagement in conversations about the great issues confronting the United States,” said David Adler, Institute president, in the release. “This fascinating program will appeal both to women and men. Students will find it entertaining and informative,” he added.

Casper will be joined by Katie Stokes, commentary page editor of the Post Register; Amy Lientz, director of government relations at the Idaho National Laboratory; Tony Carter, director of inclusion and diversity at INL; and Rekah Pillai, director of strategic investment at INL.

Two nationally prominent women — Caroline Heldman and Kathleen Tarr — will join the local participants.

Heldman is a professor of political science at Occidental College, an author of several acclaimed books, frequent guest on national television network programs, as well as a guest on “Oprah,” “Katie” and The Today Show, the release said. She’s also a film actress, and founder of an organization combating sexual violence on college campuses.

Tarr is a professor at Stanford University, where she also serves as vice-provost for undergraduate education. A Harvard-educated lawyer, Tarr is an author, film and television actress, recording artist, advocate of women’s rights, and holds national records in the marathon, the release said.

Tickets for the event are $35. They may be purchased online at alturasinstitute.com or by making a reservation at david.adler@alturasinstitute.com or calling 208-313-6554. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a reception. Dinner and program follow at 6:15.
