Contractor Condos offers large shop units for rent

Casey Jackman has opened Contractor Condos at the intersection of Burggraf Way and Heritage Lane at the southern end of Idaho Falls.

Jackman is finishing completion on six 20-foot by 40-foot units with another five to be built in the spring.

Each of the units has 14-foot-tall overhead doors and 18-foot-tall ceilings. They each also have heating units and lots of electrical outlets. The development also features communal restrooms for use by the tenants.

“They’re set up to be shops,” said Jackman, who originally planned to build storage units but changed course once he completed his market research. “When I started to look at larger storage units, I noticed that a lot them were being used by contractors and subcontractors.”

With that in mind, Jackman set about optimizing the units for contractors by adding power and heat. The development is close to Interstate 15, providing for easy access both north and south. The grounds also have room for semi-tractor access for deliveries.

The monthly rent starts at $500 per unit for those willing to sign a lease for a year or more.

For information, call Jackman at 208-709-2317.

Pocatello joins Regional Economic Development

City of Pocatello officials announced the city is joining the Regional Economic Development for Eastern Idaho organization (REDI).

The move will help support the city’s new economic development program that will focus on business recruitment, expansion and retention efforts, a REDI news release said. By joining REDI, Pocatello will be able to tap into the organization’s local, regional and national marketing efforts, expanding on its economic development affiliation with Bannock Development, the release said.

“Together, REDI and Bannock Development Corporation will be a one-two punch when it comes to marketing Pocatello,” Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad said in the release. The move is an about-face from the city’s stance in November 2014 when Blad was one of five elected Bannock County officials to sign a letter to the Bannock Development Corporation board that advocated pulling out of merger discussions with REDI.

“Let us market regionally when it makes sense, keeping in mind that sometimes our three counties compete with one another,” said the 2014 statement, signed by Blad, Chubbuck Mayor Kevin England and all three members of the Bannock County Commission. “However, most often, we have different interests and different markets.”

The city of Chubbuck announced in May that it had joined REDI. REDI members include Idaho Falls, Chubbuck, Ammon, Ucon, Blackfoot, Pocatello, Shelley, Rexburg, Bonneville County and Bingham County.

“Adding Pocatello as member of our organization furthers REDI’s efforts to secure strong regionalism and better market the entire eastern Idaho corridor,” said Jan Rogers, CEO of REDI, in the release.
